ABSTRACT:
Fruit flies are among the major pests of cucurbitaceous vegetables and citrus fruits such as mandarin and lemon. The pest management program which included the farmers awareness, male annihilation by using parapheromones and field sanitation have received tremendous interest and support of the farmers and will be continued. The increasingly important problem of mandarin orange, citrus green stink bug, was studied for its association with naturally occurring indigenous parasitoids. Trissolcus latisulcus has been found as the most widely distributed egg parasitoid. Anastatus and Ooencyrtus were also found in Pokhara. Light trap monitoring of important rice pests such as rice bug Leptocorisa orotorius, stem borers Scirpophaga incertulus and Chilo spp was carried out at Yampaphant for two years (1995 and 1996). All these pests were found to be active from March to October with peak activity during June-July. Similarly, chaffer beetles Phyllophaga spp caught in the light trap at LARC indicated that the pest is active in June-August with peak activity during June-July.
