Soil Type: Bernow fine-loamy, siliceous, thermic Glossic Paleudalf. Other soils in the region are more or less sandy. A clay hardpan can exist close to the soil surface.

Typical soil pH: 5-5.5
Add all fertilizer preplant at rates recommended by soil tests. A starter fertilizer, normally a soluble product, is added at transplanting.
Transplanting: Mid-August.
Transplanting window: 15 August to 1 September using 6-week-old transplants.
Harvest: One to three times based on head size.
Water: Normally fall precipitation is sufficient so that additional irrigation is not necessary. It is suggested that water be applied at transplanting. In particularly dry years approximately 2 inches of water per week is needed.
