Cucumber
Soil Type:Bernow fine-loamy, siliceous, thermic Glossic Paleudalf. Other soils in the region are more or less sandy. A clay hardpan can exist close to the soil surface.
Location: Lane, Oklahoma.
Fertilizer: Typical residue in spring (lbs/Acre)
| P | N | K |
| 45-50 | 10-15 | 150-180 |
Typical soil pH: 5-5.5
Add all fertilizer preplant at rates recommended by soil tests.
Soil preparation: After soil is prepared beds are formed. Black plastic mulch is placed on beds.
Plant and row spacing: Beds on 3 foot centers: A single row with 18 inches between plants.
Sowing: Seeded with the normal window being 15 April to 7 May. Holes were cut into the mulch and seeds placed into the soil. Trellises made from T-posts and nylon were used to support plants. In the warm soils of the region the mulch may not be necessary to facilitate germination, but is useful for control of weeds.
Harvest: Several fruit/plant at each picking.
Water:This is the single most important factor in cucumber production. It is beneficial to apply water at sowing. A minimum of 2 inches of water per week is required during the growing season. If it is drier than normal than additional water will be required.
