The following are projects to be undertaken
during the 2011 growing season.
1. The effects of microbe containing amendments on vegetables
will be determined. Manure will be applied uniformly to the soil. Three
formulations of microbes, and a fourth treatment, a compost tea, will be added
to the soil. The bell pepper, cv. Jupiter, the non-pungent jalapeño pepper, cv.
Pace 105, the cucumber, cv. Dasher II, and the sweet corn, cv. Incredible, will
be planted. Yields will be determined. This is the second year of the
experiment.
2. The effects of sequential cropping with vegetable and non-vegetable crops
will be examined. Manure will be applied uniformly to the soil. In the first
crop in sequence bell peppers will be transplanted, and watermelon, sunflower
and sweet sorghum will be established by seed. Second crops in sequence will be
repeats of the first crop or one of the other of the three crops. Data on soil
and tissue nutrients yields and efficacy of the cropping sequence will be
determined.
The following are projects to be undertaken during the 2010 growing season.
1. The bell pepper cv. Jupiter and the non-pungent Jalapeño pepper cv. Pace 105
will be transplanted into beds receiving the recommended or twice the
recommended rate of fertilizer. Plants will be irrigated at 10 AM or 2 PM either
once (3”/application) or twice a week (1.5”/application). Yields will be
determined. This is the second year of the experiment.
